Mini Jumbo vs Jumbo vs Conventional Toilet Rolls: A Buyer's Guide for Businesses

Betapro mini jumbo toilet rolls 200m

Commercial toilet paper is bought by the pallet and refilled by whoever is on shift, so the format you choose affects labour as much as cost. There are three common formats in UK washrooms, and most businesses settle on one.

The three formats

Format Typical length Dispenser Best for
Conventional 200–320 sheets Standard holder or twin-roll Low-footfall sites, home-style washrooms
Mini jumbo 150–200m Mini jumbo dispenser Offices, restaurants, clinics, salons, gyms
Jumbo 300–400m Jumbo dispenser High-footfall venues, schools, stadiums, service stations

Conventional rolls

Familiar and cheap per roll, but short: in a busy washroom they run out mid-day and someone has to check every cubicle. Conventional rolls make sense only where footfall is low or where a professional dispenser cannot be fitted.

Mini jumbo rolls: the office and restaurant standard

A 200m mini jumbo roll holds roughly the paper of five to eight conventional rolls, yet fits a compact cubicle dispenser. For serviced offices, professional practices, restaurant groups and clinics it is the sweet spot: long enough to cut refill visits to a few times a week, small enough not to dominate the cubicle. See Betapro Mini Jumbo 200m, 76mm core, case of 12.

Jumbo rolls: maximum footfall

Jumbo rolls (300m+) go longest between refills and have the lowest cost per metre, but the dispensers are large and the rolls are heavy to handle. Choose jumbo for venues with hundreds of visitors a day and a facilities team to manage them.

The core-size check: 60mm or 76mm

Mini jumbo and jumbo dispensers use a spindle that fits either a 60mm or a 76mm cardboard core. The two are not interchangeable: a 76mm roll on a 60mm spindle wobbles and tears; a 60mm roll will not fit a 76mm spindle at all. Before ordering, measure the inside diameter of the core on your current roll, or check the dispenser label. If you inherited dispensers from a facilities contract they are often 76mm. Pure white or recycled?

Pure white (virgin pulp) rolls are brighter and softer and suit client-facing washrooms. Recycled grades cost less and support sustainability reporting but can be greyer and rougher. Many businesses use pure white front-of-house and recycled in staff areas.

Cost per metre, not per roll

Compare toilet paper on cost per metre, not per roll or per case. A mini jumbo at 200m usually works out cheaper per metre than conventional rolls even before you count the refill labour it saves. For multi-site estates, pallet pricing drops the unit cost further.

Complete the washroom order

Toilet rolls are normally ordered with bin liners and blue roll for the cleaning cupboard. See the toilet rolls range and everything in cleaning & hygiene.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a 200m mini jumbo roll last? In an office cubicle used 30–50 times a day, typically 3–5 days; in a restaurant, less. Fit twin dispensers where you can.

Can I use mini jumbo rolls without a dispenser? They have no inner spindle, so they need a mini jumbo dispenser; conventional holders will not work.

What is the difference between 2-ply and 1-ply? 2-ply is softer and stronger and is the norm for pure white rolls; 1-ply is used for some economy jumbo rolls.
